Becoming Delta Church in Sunbury, Ohio

Throughout 2022 and 2023, Pastor Chuck and Irene Hedges carried a heartfelt prayer—that God would send a couple to continue the ministry they had faithfully nurtured for years in Sunbury, Ohio.

During that same season, we—Mike and Ashley Hadinger—were praying for a place to settle and serve, sensing God’s call to co-pastor a local Christian church. In October 2023, the Hedges reached out to us, and after shared meals, heartfelt conversations, a board interview, and much prayer, the congregation welcomed us as Co-Pastors in February 2024. Pastor Chuck and Irene retired after decades of faithful Assemblies of God ministry here in Delaware County.

A Church That Feels Like Family

From our very first Sunday, we felt what makes this Bible-based church in Sunbury so special—the people. Warm smiles, genuine care, and laughter filled every corner. Even our son was met with joy and kindness. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, this small, family-friendly church near Sunbury Square is a place where people slow down and truly share life together.

Sunday mornings here feel like family gatherings. Conversations linger, friendships form, and faith is strengthened. It’s a beautiful reflection of what it means to belong to a Christian community near Delaware and Galena.

Raising Up the Next Generation

We’ve also seen how deeply committed this church is to young people. For years, leaders here have made space for kids and young adults to grow, serve, and lead. We’re passionate about continuing that legacy as an evangelical and charismatic church in Sunbury that believes in the next generation.

While we don’t currently have a youth group, our focus on kids ministry and young families is growing. We want to see children and parents thrive together in faith and friendship.

Faithful Foundations, Fresh Vision

Some families have called this church home for decades. They’ve stayed—not out of habit, but because they believe in the power of church community. Their faithfulness inspires us as we continue this story together.

Shortly after our appointment, the Ohio Ministry Network invited us into a new opportunity. Journey Community Church in Delaware, Ohio was seeking pastoral leadership, and through prayer, both congregations sensed God leading us toward unity. On June 2, 2024, our two churches blended, worshiping side by side for the first time.

In early 2025, after much prayer and input from our church family, the name Delta Church emerged. Delta symbolizes change and transformation—how Jesus takes what is broken and makes it whole. As of April 2025, that name became official.
